Creations for Charity – Monument, Colorado 2016

Posted in Uncategorized on 24.12.16 by

It’s that time of year again! I would like to start off by saying a big THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the 2016 Creations for Charity fund raiser. You all did an amazing job and we had yet another successful year!

This was also the last year of the triptic brick, which was designed WAY back in early 2014, and the picture is now complete! I have no idea what the new thank you gifts will be designed/available for next year, but I will be putting my thinking cap shortly! If you have any ideas for any “thank you” items you would like to see I would love to hear your ideas!

In addition to keeping my eyes peeled for 50% off sales throughout the year I also worked with Jack at Chowren Toys to complete my shopping list. Thank you Jack for all of your help and for working with me so I could maximize my purchasing power.

I was allocated $1200 in funds this year and was able to purchase 221 boxed sets and 100 minifigure poly bags for a total of 321 LEGO items. All of these items were donated to Toys for Tots and will be distributed to children in El Paso County, Colorado.

Thanks again and I am looking forward to 2017 !   – Kristi

Creations for Charity 2015: Colorado

Posted in Uncategorized on 29.12.15 by

Once again I am blown away by the generosity and effort put forth by the community in helping to contribute to another record setting year. A big thank you and round of applause for your help 🙂

This will be my 3rd (or 4th year, I’ve lost count) as a contributor and my 2nd year as a coordinator located in the US. I learned from some mistakes I made last year and did my best to purchase as many sets as possible with my allocated funds. Before I get to the numbers I would like to say a big thank you to Jack at Chowren Toys who worked with me and discounted a few items to a price which allowed me to purchase a large number of two different poly bags.

I was able to purchase $3,331.93 worth of LEGO with my $1,500 in funds which wound up being a whopping 55% off retail! That translates into 121 full sets and 175 poly bags for a total of 296 children in the El Paso County area (via Toys for Tots) who received the gift of LEGO this year.

Everyone did an amazing job this year and I look forward to seeing what we can all accomplish in 2016!

Creations for Charity 2014 – Monument, Colorado

cfc_wrapupI am so excited that we broke the 10,00 mark in 2014! LEGO was also extremely generous and donated a total of 600 Chima Speedorz sets and 200 of these sets were sent to my location for donation. (100 of the 200 Chima sets are shown in the photo)

I was able to purchase various superhero and friends sets which were roughly 25% off retail. For items that had little or no sale attached to them I altered my original buying plan to try and get the most bang for my buck and decided to purchase various 3 in 1 creator sets.

In total I was able to purchase 121 sets with my funds and donated a total of 321 sets to Toys For Tots with an estimated retail value of $5,000

Shortly after Thanksgiving I got incredibly ill, which took me 5-6 weeks to get over, and because of this I was unable to display, load and transport this years sets for donation. This is also the reason why my 2014 wrap up has been posted so late. I would like to take this time to thank my friend Kathy who helped me load my car and transport 500lbs of LEGO and the Big R employees who helped Kathy unload my car and move the LEGO inside the store to their Toys for Tots drop off station. Without their help I would still have the sets sitting in my house.

cfc_2014_ad_flatWe also tried a something a little different for this years thank you gifts and created a collectible trio of bricks, with one 2×8 brick to be released each year. When all 3 bricks are combined (2014, 2015, 2016) you will be able to view the full image printed on the back of the bricks. Thank you to Queen Creek Bricks, a bricklink seller, who donated a portion of the 2×8 bricks and to Dan Kees, at Print-A-Brick, who donated $500 in printing towards the collectible thank you bricks.

And once again I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who made this years fund raiser such an incredible success! The generosity of the community and LEGO continues to astound and humble me every year. Thank you to everyone who donated their time, builds, word of mouth and funds which made the 2014 fund raiser our biggest success yet! Because of your efforts thousands of children’s Christmas was a little merrier this year.

Creations for Charity 2013 – Colorado Springs

First I’d like to say a hearty THANK YOU to LEGO, Bricklink and everyone who donated or purchased items for this years fundraiser to make it such an enormous success! Without the kindness of the Lego fan community this fund raiser would not be possible.

This is the 3rd year I have participated in the Creations for Charity fundraiser, but the 1st year I was personally affected and understood exactly how much this fund raiser really means to the people who receive these toys. My best friend of 20 years lost 100% of their homes, belongings and cars in a house fire back in August. Since then many members of the Lego community donated loose bricks and sets and Creations for Charity set aside some funds which I was able to use to repurchase each of the 4 Bogner children their favorite LEGO set. These donations have meant the world to these children who literally lost everything except the clothes they were sleeping in. I still smile when I think of how happy the kids were when they received the donations and the subsequent hours they have spent building castles, trucks and Zanadu sized houses.

In addition to the loss experienced by my friend Colorado has experienced 2 major natural disasters in the last 6 months, one of which made international news. The loss of homes from the Black Forest fire and 200 square mile flooding  in Northern Colorado was close to 2,000 homes with another 19,000 seriously damaged. Because of this enormous loss our local Toys for Tots has had more requests for toys this year than the last 5 years combined.

This being my first year as a distributor I was not sure what to expect. I found that I had a lot of fun purchasing the sets and really enjoyed talking to people about the charity when I was asked why I was buying so much Lego.

In total I was able to purchase 132 sets with my allocated funds and the Toys for Tots volunteers were all smiles when I dropped them off. They said that Lego is the most requested and wished for toy consistently every year, no matter what the age range.

So again, thank you to everyone and my fellow coordinators for making this year such a success and giving back to those in their time of need.

I would also like to specifically thank the following people and companies whose generous donation of their time, resources, building bricks and accessories helped me make this years thank you gifts possible:

Chris McVeigh, Tyler Clites, Nannan Zhang, Brick Forge, Print-A-Brick, Chrome Block City, Andrew’s e-bricks, Queen Creek Bricks and Alex Taylor Collectibles

Have a safe holiday, a Merry Christmas and a fantastic New Year!

– Kristi
