Thank you, Creations for Charity, for the opportunity to participate in Japan for the first time! What a heart-warming experience this was for me!
First, I found an orphanage in my city that has about forty children. I gave them a variety of sets so that they could share them in their communal space. (http://www.janis.or.jp/users/takazuya03/)
I also met a lovely woman who is running a foster home and helps connect other foster children with families in her area, as well as supports parents who have parenting issues. She currently takes care of six children and she said that most of the orphans and foster children have suffered from abuse. I was very touched to meet such a caring person and I asked her children to pick out which sets they wanted for Christmas. I would love to fulfill their wish lists next year as well. I also wanted to donate to two nonprofit "alternative schools" run by parents whose children have special needs or anxiety and do not want to attend public school (https://kiminomori1125.wixsite.com/website and https://www.senbokubase.shijuku-fs.org). This is quite a common issue here in Japan because of the rigid curriculum and social expectations of their culture. I really respect the parents and volunteers who help create these safe and engaging environments for children. I wanted to support these smaller organizations who have very few opportunities to receive such donations and I know that many children will enjoy playing with Lego there.
Due to the generous amount of money I received, I was able to purchase a large amount of smaller sets to distribute to hospitals (https://www.inahp.jp/english/ and https://www.wch.opho.jp/english/center). I know that Lego is a good activity for them to do while staying in bed and waiting between treatments. I feel very grateful for the opportunity to spread so much joy and generosity to my community. Thank you to everyone who donated and contributed to this year's cause!
